Suryodaya High School, a proud initiative of Suryodaya Foundation, stands as a beacon of quality education is affiliated under West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
The Montessori curriculum offers children five key areas of study: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, and Culture. Each learning area consists of a set of Montessori materials that each teach one specific knowledge area or skill. The main pillars of educating Montessori students in our school are "Sensitive periods", "The education of the senses", "The prepared environment" and "Spontaneous activities through repetition. We strive to nurture each child’s potential by providing learning experiences that support their physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development. As a result, we prepare children for success by offering a supportive and nurturing environment that emphasizes hands-on learning and independent exploration.
The curriculum is comprehensive and aims to empower each child with competitive skills and knowledge informed by social and ethical values. In Suryodaya School, we have a pre-primary section consisting of LKG, UKG, I & II. Our motto in this area is to develop well-groomed students who build up a strong foundation that will help them cope with the academics of primary classes. In LKG we have rhymes, subjects like English and Number work, EVS, GK, Pairing Activities, Elementary Exercises, Sensorial Activities and Physical Training Sessions as well as drawing, art & craft for motor development.
Students in the Middle school are taught in a manner so as develop a spirit of enquiry. Based on the sound pedagogical practice of learning by doing. Subjects taught include Language and number skills, Bengali, English, Math, Science, History, Geography, GK. For the all-round development of the child art and craft, drawing, physical education classes are also a part of the curriculum. Since most students in our schools are first generation learners, spelling dictation and reading classes are conducted on regular basis in order to provide additional support.
In the senior school we are fully compliant with the guidelines laid down by WBBSE. All teaching is done through structured and regulated processes in order to prepare our students to face the academic challenge of appearing for a Board Exam. Academic support is given by our very able staff. As our students are unlikely to have learning support at home, remedial classes are arranged in school before/after school hours. The school not only prepares students for the Board Examination but attempts to develop their natural talents through a range of extra-curricular activities.
Suryodaya School is a school for underprivileged students where education is imparted to them free of cost. Other than educating them and making them fit to face the challenges of life we have started WOMAN EMPOWERMENT programme in the school campus itself. Keeping in mind that empowering women will help to view herself as a complete person we have started two courses for them.
Computer classes are being conducted in the school premises itself on Saturdays
and Sunday. Qualified teachers teach them and guide them and even conduct practical classes. We have
more than dozen computers in school. They will be awarded certificates at the end of their course.
More than twenty young girls are become e-literate. Other than academics they are technically
trained so that they get better options in future. Suryodaya is trying its best to empower women and
secure a better future for them.
Quilling or paper figurine is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled,
shaped and glued together to create decorative designs in cards, photo frames, jewellery boxes etc.
Teachers of Suryodaya have been trained with quilling art. They in turn are training the women
mainly the mothers of our school students. They prepare small petals out of colourful paper strips
and the petals are assembled to prepare beautiful flowers, leaves etc. These flowers and petals are
assembled on cards, jewellery boxes, envelopes etc.
This has led to empowerment of women. Women have learned to understand economics and how to make
money. This has enabled to them to be financially self-sufficient. They are being paid for preparing
the flowers. This has helped them in raising the standard of the family.
Dance enhances physical, emotional, and social skills. Exposure to dance and performances gives the students another way to express their emotions through a physical art form. Dance is a group activity and the students of Suryodaya school and nearby schools enrolled themselves in vocational dance classes that is being held in the school premises itself.
